About
Anlaby is a breathtaking Barossa venue with a story around every corner of their extensive heritage gardens.
Established in 1839, Anlaby has a pretty remarkable history – the property is proudly South Australia’s oldest merino stud. First and foremost, Anlaby continues today as a working property breeding stud sheep producing pure luxury merino wool, however, couples now have the unique opportunity to wed on the grounds of one of SA’s most significant historic properties.
Let us start by saying this place is colossal, the sheer scale of Anlaby is impressive. Built in 1860, Anlaby’s iconic heritage-listed Homestead currently features 32 rooms and retains many of the architectural and decorative features of its heyday, including rare textiles, a ballroom and even two libraries! Surrounding the stately Homestead are 10 acres of manicured gardens, along with a collection of buildings and little laneways that instantly transport you to your own quaint fairytale English village.
Wander further into the grounds of this country estate, you’ll find spellbinding gardens that are home to one of the largest collections of significant trees in Australia. Immerse yourself in the Edwardian era, with wisteria covered arbours, a crab-apple walk, rockery, peacock aviary, formal rose gardens and the apple house. Our pick for your ceremony would be on the lawns of the fountain terrace under the striking Chinese Elm tree.
The spacious terrace of the Homestead, known as The Colonnade, is a black and white marble tiled terrace that offers an elevated view of the central fountain and front garden, providing the ideal location for pre-reception drinks and canapés while you take the time for photos in the glorious gardens.
Their undercover reception space is one for the horse lovers – The Clydesdale Pavilion is an old horse pavilion featuring stone walls, paved flooring and exposed beams seating from 30 guests up to 160 guests comfortably and is charming space for your guests to enjoy the festivities. You could style this space elaborately with over the top florals and extra lighting, or keep it simple – this rustic pavilion speaks for itself.
A wedding at Anlaby means that you will have exclusive use of the entire property over three days, from 2pm Friday until 12pm Sunday. Their wedding packages feature a fantastic list of inclusions and they are also a full-service venue, with a great selection of beverages, and fully-tailored catering exclusively supplied by Hand Made Catering. The friendly team at Anlaby are there to guide you through the planning from start to finish.
Their beautiful on-site accommodation incorporates three original buildings, sleeping up to a total of 16 guests. Tastefully updated, The Manor House, Head Gardener’s Cottage and Coachman’s Cottage all combine their own blend of unique heritage style and luxurious modern amenities, offering a relaxing place for couples and bridal party or close relatives to retreat to after the big day.
At just under 15 minutes from Kapunda, and only a 35 minute drive to Tanunda, it’s not far to other local accommodation options, but trust us when we say you will feel a complete world (and a century or two) away at Anlaby.
Steeped in history, with sprawling manicured gardens and beautiful historic buildings, Anlaby is a Grand Dame on the edge of the Barossa with that old-world charm that is hard to come by.
