The Retreat at Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill is almost McLaren Vale royalty and as you drive up Chapel Hill Road towards the estate it certainly feels every bit of it. The estate produces some of the regions highest quality wines and holds a prime parcel of land with panoramic views back over the Onkaparinga Gorge, vineyards and coast.

The name Chapel Hill is a nod to the iconic ironstone Chapel, built by early settlers in 1865. The building after 100 years of use was retired and since has been lovely converted to continue as an icon of the region, this time as the Chapel Hill Cellar Door.

Seperate to the cellar door, The Retreat is a purpose built chalet style venue with grand loft ceilings, floor to ceiling glass windows and a big open fireplaces. It’s offered exclusively for weddings and events and its modern finishes, which are blended perfectly with the rustic warmth of the stone building, offer a luxurious canvas.

The large dining room offers uninterrupted views and opens onto an large deck perfect for an outdoor lounge area, an extended reception space or an outdoor dancefloor. The space can also easily be covered with a pavilion in case of inclement weather to allow for complete peace of mind. These combined spaces can accommodate a seated function of up to 100 guests or 200 for cocktail style functions.

The luxury lodge feel continues externally with the building being wrapped by lush lawns and a feature colonial timber fence. Offering a stunning vista, the space maximises the view and is ideal for ceremonies and sophisticated afternoon pre-receptions.

Chapel Hill is a full-service venue with their incredible in house team providing staffing, set-up, delicious menus and flexible beverage solutions all in-house.

Chapel Hill is also one of the rare few on the Fleurieu Peninsula that offers onsite accommodation. Seven well-appointed and recently renovated suites are available within The Retreat are included within your package price. Additionally, a standalone Guest House with six double rooms, a large entertaining area, and wondrous views is an optional extra available. It’s an ideal space to prepare for the day with your best friends while discreetly watching guests arrive. Combined these rooms can accommodate up to 28 guests. A great option for an intimate destination wedding or for larger groups something that can easily be bolstered with a variety of other accommodation less than 5 minutes drive away in the township of McLaren Vale.
