Koonowla Wines is a luxurious yet flexible country winery and one of the Clare Valley’s most iconic historic properties.

Located just east of Auburn, the family-owned estate is surrounded by rolling hills, open paddocks, and gorgeous vineyards. The property itself comprises extensive vineyards, cellar door, livestock and farming enterprises. But the part that we think you’ll be most interested in, is the beautiful historic homestead and stately gardens surrounding the cellar door that look like they could be straight from the cover of Home Beautiful magazine.

Separated into five primary event spaces all suitable for various components of the day, Koonowla Wines is perfectly suited to weddings.

Driving up the private homestead entrance, affectionately known as Claret Ash Avenue after the beautiful trees which line it, the Heritage Lawns are on the right and the Cellar Door, Terrace, and Lawns on the left. Whilst the grounds are very spacious, they are wrapped by a small stone wall and lush greenery which provide a sense of connection and belonging between all the spaces.

Our pick for the ceremony, the beautiful Wisteria Arbour which sits surrounded by the manicured lawn and a vista of the heritage homestead just waiting to be included in your day. In the event of inclement weather, or simply if you’re wanting a rustic indoor barn-style ceremony, their refurbished historic winery building ticks all the boxes.

After your ceremony, the Heritage Lawns shaded by the Ash Trees are perfect for lawn games and pre-reception drinks before the celebrations move over to the Cellar Door side with a marquee on the lawn, an open-air dinner or an alfresco sensation on the open terrace. The Terrace features a gloriously large wood-fired pizza oven and, in keeping with the flexibility of this beautiful venue, it’s something you can indeed incorporate into your day in conjunction with your caterer as a ‘make your own’ pizza bar.

Koonowla Wines is a flexible facility, allowing you the freedom to confirm your own caterer and suppliers, while selecting a drinks package of premium Koonowla wines. With power, water and bathrooms on site and accommodation on site for up to 12 guests or just a 5 minute drive away, there really aren’t any hidden extras to worry about.
