Sabella Vineyards

Sabella Vineyards is a unique Fleurieu Peninsula cellar door located in the former McLaren Vale Congregational Church, a stunning gothic-style church built out of locally-sourced sandstone and slate. Founded in 1860, it was the first church built in the McLaren Vale area and was established on the same site of the very first service held by McLaren Vale residents in 1840.

Through an exclusive partnership with VENYU, this historic space is now available for intimate elopements through to larger sized wedding celebrations.

Stepping up the slate steps and through the original arched doorway your eyes are immediately drawn upwards to the soaring roofline, featuring a panelled timber ceiling with show-stopping curved beams, all original to the building. The large room which is now used at the Sabella Vineyards cellar door has refinished timber floorboards that add mood and create warmth against the white plastered walls, which feature roof supports with intricate details. 

This grand space is bright and airy with natural light streaming in through original leadlight windows and is a stunning choice for a formal seated reception with long tables, or can be used for a cocktail celebration by negotiation.

Outside, their courtyard is equally stunning. Under the shade of the mammoth gum tree and numerous shade sails, the courtyard is a space that can be utilised in many ways. With lots of little corners, it calls for a combo of relaxed lounge and cocktail setups, and of course pre-dinner beverages from the outdoor bar. Also in this space is a neat little slate-paved platform sheltered by a pergola – a perfect spot as a stage for an acoustic band.

With such beautiful natural locations at the doorstep, host your ceremony at one of the nearby beaches or parks, and then guests can arrive at Sabella Vineyards for pre-dinners while you have your couple portraits at sunset.

Sabella is a flexible venue, providing couples with opportunity to utilise their McLaren Vale wine packages, but you can bring in your own choice of caterer. Their package features an amazing list of inclusions and furniture, including large solid timber tables and Modern scandi-style chairs to seat up to 100 guests, bathrooms, outdoor lighting and the use of their kitchen and onsite coolroom by catering suppliers.
