The Barns of Freeling

This historic Barossa barn has been beautifully restored with many nods to relaxed luxury. The Barns of Freeling is a flexible space we’re certain is going to be hugely popular once word gets out.

Set on the edge of Freeling, a town wrapped by gentle rolling hills, it’s one of the main gateways into the Barossa Valley and is one of the largest hay-producing regions in the state. Located only 15 minutes from Gawler and under 1 hour from the Adelaide CBD is one of the most accessible parts of the Barossa Valley but feels a world away in the midst of McLeod’s Daughters countryside.

The Barns were built in 1921 from locally sourced hand-dug and carted materials and was an integral part of the property back in the day but as practices became mechanised and grew the barns became obsolete and fell into disrepair. Having long since dreamed of restoring the barns the project finally came to life and was completed in 2019. What started as a project to restore just for simple family events became a beautiful renovation with the finest details considered.

The Barns of Freeling offers complete flexibility and customisation for couples over a three day hire. With exclusive use of the space you have the ability to select your preference of caterers, bring in your own beverages for your bar team to serve and add your own touches to the decor and styling with the peace of mind of a day either side to set-up and packdown without the rush. With so much flexibility The Barns of Freeling can be an ideal space for a formal seated wedding, a relaxed cocktail evening or a blended celebration of food trucks, wood fired pizzas or paella. Whilst we’re talking about planning we should probably mention The Barns of Freeling is an Exclusive VENYU Property so should you book you’ll have the full support of our Event Managers throughout your planning.

The property features multiple spaces for your celebration of love. The Upper Lawns offer an incredible northern vista and open views across kilometres of wide-open farmland, is a beautiful space for a smaller ceremony, post-ceremony lawn games, or an open air pre-receptions. The Lower Lawn is the newest addition to The Barns, incorporating the iconic windmill, it has plenty of room to accommodate large ceremonies or for an outdoor reception under the stars.

Inside, there are two event spaces. The Main Room, features a cosy fireplace and full-length glass sliding doors that open out onto a large outdoor Terrace just waiting for festoon lights. It seats up to 80 guests comfortably or 100 guests in a less formal seating style. The Jarrah Room, a work of art of it’s own with exposed timber beams, original jarrah floor boards and rendered walls. The space provides the perfect intimate setting for an indoor ceremony if the weather isn’t favourable, a reception lounge retreat, or the late night dancefloor.

Most don’t associate a barn with luxury but this one has so many luxury touches it’s hard to argue with the label. Underfloor heating, polished cement floors, ducted air conditioning, acoustic ceiling, recently renovated full-size catering kitchen with spacious coolroom, and new bathrooms with modern amenities. Not to mention the many other handy facilities that will make planning your day here a breeze such as an inbuilt sound system and dimmable lights, not to mention a long list of high-quality furniture available for your use including tables, chairs, wine barrels, and a gorgeous handmade moveable 3m long bar.

And just when you thought we couldn’t mention anything more – we’re pleased to inform you that they now also offer accommodation for up to 12 guests, including studios in a second fully refurbished barn and, wait for it, Australia’s first custom-built silo accommodation suites!

The Barns of Freeling is a rare find in the Barossa, offering casual luxury, open space and full flexibility. You best get onto it before your friends do! ❤️
