Like stepping into the pages of a timeless English fairytale, Stangate House & Garden is a historic Aldgate property that is undoubtedly one of Adelaide Hills’ best kept secrets – until now!

Situated on four acres of Adelaide Hills countryside, the gracefully cascading garden was designed by a renowned landscape designer. It features a menagerie of plants and trees, mostly of English and European variety, including ferns, magnolias, hydrangeas and famously, camellias.

While the property and its 1940’s bungalow is cared for by the National Trust, the garden is also proudly home to the Adelaide Hills Camellia Society and features one of the most comprehensive camellia collections in Adelaide, including multiple rare varieties. These flowers are the real stars of the garden, stealing the show with their beauty and kaleidoscope of colour.

Some of our favourite locations at Stangate House include the wisteria walkway, a vibrant and delightfully aromatic arch shaped tunnel that is a stunning backdrop for photos. And then there’s the majestic oak tree. Planted in 1838, it is said to be one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and has been a favourite place for families to picnic throughout the decades, so naturally is the perfect shady location for exchanging vows.

Every path you follow in this garden leads you to something magical. The trickling water of the Aldgate Creek which meanders through the property is as soothing as it is beautiful, and the bridge is a breathtaking location for couples portraits.

Stangate House & Garden is offered as a dry hire or fully-inclusive venue for up to 450 guests outside. A marquee-friendly venue, couples also have the option to use Stangate House’s function room for smaller gatherings or as a wet-weather ceremony backup, and an event manager is included in all their wedding packages.

Located 25 minutes from the city and just a short drive from Stirling, Stangate House & Garden is a conveniently located venue that honestly feels a lot further away than a short trip up the freeway.
