Stoney Creek Estate

Stoney Creek Estate is a 28-acre dry-hire property located 45 minutes from Adelaide in the lush bushland of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Featuring a stunning 8 acres of olive groves, this working farm and equestrian centre has now opened its gates to couples looking for a wedding venue with a secluded location, yet is just 4 minutes to the historic town of Strathalbyn.

Stoney Creek Estate is a property rich with history. Settled by Stephen Hall in the 1800’s, he farmed the productive land, but was also publican to Strathalbyn’s Robin Hood and Commercial Hotels. Now home to the Stone family, the name Stoney Creek Estate seemed fitting as there is also a rocky creek that winds its way through the property.

The estate is gloriously dotted with shady gum trees, so there are numerous locations for a large sheltered ceremony, or for an intimate celebration of love, the rows of the olive groves provide a tranquil location for your small gathering.

The centrepiece of Stoney Creek Estate is an original stone barn, which was crafted out of stone sourced from the creek running through the property. Once a dusty storage space for farm equipment, the barn has undergone a beautiful restoration using character reclaimed timber windows, and featuring white-washed walls, rustic roof beams, concrete flooring, and a large corrugated sliding door. This space has a genuinely rustic feel but is warm and inviting, as it has the added benefit of lighting, heating and cooling throughout, as well as plumbed bathrooms. A stunning all-weather option for your reception, we can see this space used for both formal seated receptions or more casual affairs, especially if the weather isn’t ideal.

Venture outside to the large paved terrace and you will find a fun festive space for pre-dinners, outdoor dining or could be used as a dance floor – the terrace is draped with permanent festoon lights which illuminate the whole area. And the fire pit is sure to keep guests warm even on cool spring evenings.

You also have the option to extend the festivities out into the large open grassy field adjoining the barn – this space can be utilised for lawn games, but more importantly allows plenty of room for a marquee or bell tents.

Across the field is Stoney Creek Estate’s quaint stone cottage, which was once the home to the founder of the property and his family. Dating back to 1857, this cosy cottage has been lovingly renovated with a modern country charm. Featuring vaulted ceilings, a breakfast alfresco, ensuite with large double shower, vintage outdoor bath, kitchenette, and second to none views of the rural landscape beyond.

As Stoney Creek Estate is also home to an equestrian centre, exclusive hire of one of their horses can be made available for photography. This venue is also pet friendly, and they welcome you to bring your fur friends along for your ceremony celebration.

As a dry-hire venue, Stoney Creek Estate is a blank canvas for you to plan, style and cater your wedding as you please, be it boho, rustic chic or modern scandi. And there are several accessible locations with power and water for catering, beverage and entertainment suppliers. As well as offering you the choice to bring all of your own hire items, the owners have put together a funky eclectic mix of furniture and styling items that you have the option to hire.

And just when you thought this venue couldn’t get much better, we’ve added one last detail that is sure to impress. There’s so much space you can arrive by helicopter! If that’s not your style and you’d rather something more vintage, you can opt to use their Volkswagen convertible instead.

Stoney Creek Estate is a Fleurieu Peninsula beauty that has paired rustic charm with serenity, giving couples the ideal combo for a dry-hire venue. We get the feeling this place won’t be a secret for too long ❤️
