Located an easy 20 minutes from Hahndorf and just 40 minutes from Adelaide, The Brae is a fully flexible venue giving you complete freedom to create your own bespoke wedding celebration that is completely true to you! You will have access to the venue over three days to allow for setup and a leisurely pack down – no stressful rushed post-wedding packing up here!

The charming heritage buildings at The Brae, which were once integral to the copper smelting operations when the site was established in 1847, and since used by an award-winning merino stud, have now been beautifully repurposed for weddings and events, and serve as a testament to both the industrial and agricultural heritage of Dawesley.

The Brae’s iconic heritage barn The Stables, with its unique timber Dutch doors, is a rustic yet intimate space. The Stables is the ideal wet weather backup option for your ceremony, or you could choose to use this special space no matter the weather! Alternatively, there are a number of other idyllic and tranquil outdoor locations nestled amidst the hills for your nuptials, including under a large leafy gum.

Outside there are large stretches of lawns offering the ideal setting for guests to enjoy lawn games and sunset pre-dinners, taking in the views of The Brae’s enchanting location. We recommend meandering through their picturesque grounds – you’ll be greeted by the property’s resident sheep, chickens and calves, and well as a possible sighting of local native fauna!

The main reception area, known as the Long Barn, is housed within a striking stone and cinder block building, and exudes a rustic elegance. The interior of this building boasts exposed wooden roof beams and concrete flooring, and despite its huge size, offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. Adorn this space with twinkling lights from their preferred supplier Bulb Lighting and, as the day transitions into evening, the barn is transformed into a dreamy space with a soft, romantic glow.

Another drawcard at The Brae is Dawesley Cottage, their onsite boutique accommodation. One of the first buildings in Dawesley, it originally served as the office to the copper smelter. This quaint stone cottage has been beautifully transformed into a relaxing and peaceful couples retreat, which is also included in your wedding package!

Helping you with your plans, owners Milos and Maddie will be there to support you throughout the process of planning, as well as hosting you during your stay.

As a dry-hire facility, The Brae allows you complete flexibility. Select and purchase your preference of delicious Adelaide Hills wines and craft beers, and the team at The Brae will take care of the bar service. Catering for the evening can be as gourmet or relaxed as you like, select your own choice of vendors, or they are happy to make a recommendation based on your preferences.
